• Nigel Kennedy re-enacts England - Poland 73’qualifier?
  • 30.05.2010

The Royal Festival Hall in London is the venue today of a unique artistic project which is part of Nigel Kennedy's Polish Weekend.

The famous violinist and his group improvise a musical score with live commentary to the video of the famous 1973 England vs Poland World Cup qualifying match, projected on a big screen.

"I thought it would be a laugh to get a match between Poland and England, and do it as a silent film, with us improvising along," Kennedy told the Independent (UK).

In his view, there is a similarity between music and football in that football brings a lot of people together and music is obviously designed expressly for that purpose. Kennedy is a great football, a supporter of Aston Villa in the U.K. and Cracovia in the city of Kraków, where he settled several years ago.

In the historic game of October 1973 Poland held England to a one-all draw, eliminating it from the 1974 World Cup in Germany. The match attracted some 100, 000 fans at Wembley Stadium. Nigel Kennedy, who has lived in Krakow for some years with his Polish wife, is a famous Aston Villa supporter. (mk/pg)
