The Adam Mickiewicz Institute, which promotes Polish culture abroad, is celebrating ten years of its activity.
Summing up its endeavours at a press conference in Warsaw, its director Paweł Potoroczyn spoke of some 3,000 events in 26 countries of three continents which have attracted over 18 million people.
The most spectacular projects include the Days of Polish Culture in Russia, Polish Seasons in Spain and France, the Polish Year in Israel and the Polska! Year in Britain, now nearing completion.
Mr Potoroczyn said that Poland has earned the name of ‘Europe’s creative hub’ and ranks highly in the European Union’s cultural exchange.
The 10th anniversary of the Institute is marked by a series of events including a concert by Sinfonia Varsovia under Marc Minkowski and the world premiere in September of a new piece by the Polish composer Pawel Szymański – a concerto for piano and ten harps. (mk)
