• Papal medal for Polish movie maker

Renowned film director Krzysztof Zanussi has received  the Per Artem ad Deum (Through Art to God) Medal from the Pontifical Council for Culture.  

 

The presentation ceremony is held today the Sacroexpo Fair in Kielce, southern Poland. Zanussi will receive the medal from the Archbishop of Lviv Mieczysław Mokrzycki, former personal secretary of John Paul II and Benedict XVI, who will also open the Sacroexpo Fair.

 

The Sacroexpo International Fair of Church Construction, Church Furnishings and Religious Art has brought to Kielce over 250 exhibitors from fifteen countries. Today is the final day of a retrospective of Zanussi’s film output. His latest feature – Revisited – yet to go on general release is also included.

 

The most acclaimed films by the seventy one year-old Zanussi are Family Life, Camouflage,  Illumination, From a Far Country, Life as a Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease and Persona non grata.  

 

Last year the Per Artem ad Deum Medal went to Polish composer Wojciech Kilar. (mk)
