The production of Idomeneo, King of Crete opens tonight the Mozart Festival staged by the Warsaw Chamber Opera.
A six-week marathon, it includes the productions of all of Mozart’s twenty three stage works, as well as a selection of his chamber compositions (performed by the Warsaw Chamber Opera’s period instruments ensemble Musicae Antiquae Collegium Varsoviense) and piano works.
The opera productions are held at the Warsaw Chamber Opera and the concerts at the Grand Hall of the Royal Castle and the White Room of Wilanów Palace. As every year, the composer’s Requiem is performed at the city’s Seminary Church in Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.
The Warsaw Mozart Festival was launched in 1991, the 200th anniversary of Mozart’s death, and has been held every year since. This year it is held for the 20th time. It closes on 26 July.
The event is the brainchild of Stefan Sutkowski, the Artistic Director of the Warsaw Chamber Opera. (mk)
