Katarzyna Rosłaniec won the top accolade at the 25th International Film Festival Cinema Jove in the Spanish town of Valencia for her debut feature Mall Girls.
The film received the ‘Luna de Valencia’ Award. The programme of the festival includes solely films by directors under 30 years of age.
Mall Girls focuses on teenage prostitution, showing a group of schoolgirls lured by the shopping malls with their trendy clothes and brand name cosmetics, the things they can easily get in exchange for sex.
The film received the Best Debut Award at the Polish Film Festival in 2009 as well as awards at international festivals in Seoul, Cottbus and Almaty in Kazakhstan.
Katarzyna Rosłaniec graduated in economics in 1994, before taking up film directing. She studied at the Warsaw Film School and Andrzej Wajda’s School of Film Directing. (mk)
