Polish music is the theme of the 25th jubilee edition of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival in northern Germany.
The festival, which has been named "Poland in Pulse" for its jubilee year, is to feature artists such as the internationally renowned pianists Piotr Anderszewski, Rafał Blechacz and Leszek Możdżer.
Other musicians to perform at the festival include the contralto Ewa Podleś, the Nigel Kennedy Quintet, the Royal String Quartet, the early music ensemble Arte Dei Suonatori, jazz trumpeter Tomasz Stańko, jazz vocalist Anna Maria Jopek and Sinfonia Varsovia.
A concert performance of Halka by Stanisław Moniuszko, the father of Polish national opera, is also in the programme.
Launched in 1986, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival is among the most prestigious music events in Europe. There is a total of 136 concerts held in a variety of venues, from castles and churches to barns and post-industrial locations. The festival runs until August 29. (mk/jb)
