Polish director Roman Polanski, whom Swiss authorities refused to extradite to the US, will begin shooting a new film in January.
In the last 10 months, which Polanski spent under house arrest in his chalet in Gstaad, Switzerland after being arrested in Zurich, the film director drafted a script for a new film based on the Broadway play by Yasmine Reza titled The God of Carnage, which received many prizes, including a Lawrence Olivier Award and a Tony Award for Best Play.
Polanski and Reza started discussing the adaptation of the play in September last year several days before the film director was arrested in Switzerland. In the following months, the French playwright and actress visited Polanski several times in Gstaad and she worked with the Polish film director on the script.
Now that Polanski is, effectively, free, the shooting of the film, in which American actors are said to star, will start in January next year.
The God of Carnage is about two pairs of parents, one whose child has hurt the other at a public park, who meet to discuss the matter in a civilized manner. However, as the evening goes on, the parents become increasingly childish, resulting in the evening devolving into chaos. (mg/mmj)
