Sting will be the star of the opening ceremony of the new football stadium in Poznan, western Poland, on 20 September.
The renowned British singer will appear with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Steven Mercurio, as part of a tour promoting his new album Symphonicities.
It will be Sting’s seventh visit to Poland. The first one was in 1996. He gave three concerts in Warsaw (1996, 2001, 2005), two in Katowice, southern Poland (1997, 2000) and one in Chorzow’s Slask Stadium (2008)).
The stadium in Poznan will be inaugurated as the first of Poland’s four Euro 2012 venues. The remaining three are to open next year: one in Gdansk in April, the one in Warsaw in June and the Wroclaw stadium in July.
The Euro 2010 tournament, hosted in Poland and Ukraine, opens in 695 days. (mk/mmj)
