The programme has been unveiled for the four-week 'Chopin and His Europe' festival which opens in Warsaw on August 1.
Chopin and His Europe comprises over fifty concerts with the participation of some 200 performers, including such famous pianists as Fou Ts’ong, Martha Argerich, Howard Shelley, Nikolai Lugansky, Dang Thai Son, Nelson Freire, Stanislav Bunin, Janusz Olejniczak and Ewa Pobłocka.
Also billed at the Festival are the Orchestra of the 18th Century under Frans Bruggen, the Orchestre des Champs-Elysees conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, The Tallis Scholars, The King’s Singers, the Paco Pena Flamenco Company as well as great jazzmen Bobby McFerrin and Tomasz Stańko.
In some of the concerts, pianists will play on period instruments, including an Erard (1849) and a Pleyel (1838).
The ‘Chopin and His Europe’ Festival, now in its sixth year, is one of the highlights of the Chopin Year, the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. (mk/jb)
