The Solidarity of Arts music festival kicks off in the Baltic city of Gdansk tomorrow, and is set to commemorate the 30th anniverary of the Solidarity movement as well as the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth.
Highlights of the festival will include a premiere of one Poland’s highly-acclaimed composers, Pawel Mykietyn’s “VIVO XXX”, commissioned by the European Solidarity Centre for the anniversary of the trade union.
Other concerts will include a performace by jazz pianist Leszek Mozdzer, as well as pop singer Gabriela “Gaba” Kulka.
The Solidarity of Arts Festival is one of Gdansk’s efforts to gain the title of European Capital of Culture in 2016, with this year’s event under the honorary patronage of Lech Walesa, legendary founder of the Solidarity movement.
