This year marks the 42nd International Highland Folkore Festival in Poland’s mountain resort in Zakopane, which starts tomorrow, Friday.
The highlights of this year’s festival are to include concerts by bands from Argentina and Sierra Leone, although groups from Turkey, Italy, Serbia, Romania, and other European countries are to attend the festival in Zakopane.
The festival is to include highland craft workshops, as well as a junior competition for the first time in the competition’s history.
The International Highland Folklore festival dates from 1968, and includes four competition categories: authentic performace, adapted works, stylised forms and ‘reconstructed’ folklore, recreated from literature and archival materials.
