The 53rd Warsaw Autumn Festival of contemporary music launches in Warsaw tonight with the premiere performance of a new composition by Zygmunt Krauze titled “Letters” for four pianos and orchestra, a piece especially commissioned by the festival.

This year’s theme of Warsaw Autumn is the keyboard and so special focus will be on keyboard instruments – including synthesisers and computers. The theme is also a reference to the Chopin bicentennial and Chopin Year.

Many of the festival concerts, starting with tonight’s inaugural performance, will be broadcast by Polish Radio 2. (ek/jb)
