• First non-Pole to head Polish cultural institution

Fabio Cavallucci has been appointed director of the prestigious Contemporary Arts Center. Zamek Ujazdowski, in Warsaw.

The Italian art critic and board member of the International “Manifesta” Foundation is the first foreigner to head a cultural institution in Poland.

The nomination was presented to Mr. Cavallucci by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogdan Zdrojewski.

Fabio Cavallucci said he was honoured with receiving the post.

“When I see people discussing cultural matters, including politicians, who do all in their power to support culture, I’m convinced I have arrived at a cultural heaven. I would like to thank the Minister for this opportunity”, he added during the ceremony in Warsaw.

The new director of the Contemporary Arts Centre at Zamek Ujazdowski was also congratulated by its former head Wojciech Krukowski who retired in April after 10 years at the helm of the institution.  (ss)
