One of Warsaw’s most innovative theatre companies, TR Warszawa, performs its highly-acclaimed production TEOREMAT in London’s Barbican Centre this week.

The production is directed and written by Grzegorz Jarzyna on the basis of the works by the late Italian director, poet, and intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini and his film Teorema.

The play is set in Italy in 1968 and, as the theatre says on its website, ‘its heroes are the members of an affluent family of an authoritarian Milanese industrialist who hopelessly fall into a spiral of lust, sexual awakening and mystical turmoil after a charismatic stranger comes to stay with them.’

The production stars leading Polish actors, including Jan Englert and Danuta Stenka. There are four performances, on 14-17 October, in Polish, with English surtitles.

Earlier this year, TR Warszawa performed Sarah Kane’s 4.48 at the Barbican with much success. Over the past fifteen years Grzegorz Jarzyna’s productions have been presented at prestigious festivals in  Bonn, London, Antwerp, Vilnius, Wroclaw, Vienna and Avignon. (mk/jb)
