• NY Philharmonic comes to Poland

The New York Philharmonic is billed to give two concerts in Warsaw at the end of this month, and will accompany the winner of the ongoing Chopin Competition in a special performance.

 

On 28 October the renowned orchestra will perform works by Richard Strauss and Brahms while a day later – by Beethoven, Debussy, Hindemith and Chopin, with the winner of the Chopin Competition appearing as soloist in Chopin’s Concerto in E minor.

 

An engagement with the New York Philharmonic is one of the many awards for the winner of the event, which ends in the middle of next week. In both concerts the orchestra will be conducted by Alan Gilbert, its Music Director since last year.

 

The 29 October concert will be repeated on 4 January 2011 in New York’s Avery Fisher Hall, as part of a project to promote the Chopin Competition overseas, Polish artists connected with New York and the Polish calendar of artistic events for 2011.

 

Founded in 1842, the New York Philharmonic is one of the oldest symphony orchestras in the world. It is also among the world’s best known orchestras, with guest performances in 62 countries to date. (mk/jb)
