- 20.10.2010
The ENT clinic at Poznań Hospital, western Poland unveiled a plaque to the memory of late jazzman and composer Krzysztof Komeda on Tuesday, who once worked as a doctor working there.
“Here on the second flood doctor Komeda learned the secrets of medicine and carried out his first surgeries. Luckily for music, world cinema and for us, I think, he devoted himself to what he loved and did best, music” said head of the clinic, professor Witold Szyfter, recalling music’s most famous ENT specialist.
Komeda is best known for his film scores which he wrote for Rosemary’s Baby and other movies by Roman Polanski.
Hospital archives still preserve reports handwritten by Krzysztof Komeda. Over eighteen months at the clinic he performed almost 30 operations, mostly tonsillectomies. Then he turned to music. Today’s ceremony was attended by the artist’s sister, Irena Orłowska, friends from his years as a medical student, as well as many fans of his music. (ek)
