• New concert hall for Warsaw
  • 14.11.2010

The results of an international architectural competition for the design of a concert hall for the Sinfonia Varsovia, one of Poland’s leading orchestras, are to be announced Sunday.

The jury will select the winning project from the ten shortlisted designs, which had earlier been chosen from 137 projects scrutinized in the first round of the competition.

The concert hall, which is to seat around 1, 500, will be the focal point of a future European Music Centre to be erected on the site which was recently purchased by the City of Warsaw from the Higher School of Agriculture and handed over to Sinfonia Varsovia. The project is to be partly financed with European Union funds.

Founded 25 years ago, with Sir Yehudi Menuhin as its Principal Guest Conductor,  Sinfonia Varsovia  has established a fine international reputation thanks to its worldwide tours and recordings for the top labels. Last year, Marc Minkowski became its Music Director.  (mk)
