  • 09.12.2010
The internationally renowned Polish jazz trumpeter Tomasz Stańko has performed at a special concert in the National Philharmonic Hall to raise funds for the Museum of the History of Polish Jews which is currently being built on the site of the former Jewish Ghetto.

Its construction has reached its half-way mark.

Stańko, who is a member of the Polish Committee of Support of the Museum Project, has invited Polish and American musicians - Dominik Wania, Sławomir Kurkiewicz, Craig Taborn and Joey Baron – to join him on this special occasion.

It was the second such concert, held under the motto ‘Music for a better world’, referring to one of the basic notions of Judaism – tikkun olam (repairing the world).

Last year, it starred the renowned American violinist Joshua Bell.

The Museum of the History of Polish Jews will commemorate nearly one thousand years of Jewish life in Poland.

Through innovative exhibitions and educational programmes, it aims at fostering respect for Jewish tradition and culture and stimulate dialogue.

The project is the work of the Finnish architect Rainer Mahlamaki. (mk)
