The Baltic Opera in Gdansk has been selected  by BBC Television as one of the eight most interesting European opera companies in 2010.

Excerpts from its production of Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos are included in a 60-minute programme featuring the best performances from known and lesser known opera houses, alongside such prestigious companies as the Covent Garden, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Dutch National Opera and the Liceu in Barcelona.

The Best of European Opera has already been broadcast by the BBC and the NRK Television in Norway. Poland’s public television TVP will present the programme on New Year’s Day.

The BBC has offered the programme to all members of the European Broadcasting Union EBU. (mk),
