Cameraman Wojciech Staron received the Silver Bear award in the Outstanding Artistic Contribution category for his work in the film The Prize.

The film is a Polish, Mexican, French and German co-production.

Wojciech Staron told reporters the task set by producers was extremely challenging as the scenes were to recreate the atmosphere of the 1970s in Argentina, then ruled by the military junta, which affected the fate of the film’s main character, an 8 year old girl.

Director Dorota Kedzierzawska was honoured with two prizes outside the main event - the Grand Prix at the Children’s Festival and the Peace Film Award granted by a 9 member international jury.

Her movie Tomorrow Will Be Better tells the story of three Russian boys who illegally escaped to Poland in hope of finding a new life in what they see as a better world.

Director Kedzierzawska explained it’s a universal message about the positive power of fulfilling human dreams.    (ss)
