Russian-born pianist Tatiana Shebanova has died in Warsaw aged 58 years-old.
She settled in Poland many years ago, having married a Pole, Jarosław Drzewiecki, also a pianist.
Their son, Stanisław Drzewiecki, is also a pianist. Tatiana Shebanova was a graduate of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
Tatiana Shebanova was a prize winner of several major competitions, including the 10th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1980 (Second Prize and special prizes for the best performance of a polonaise and a concerto).
She developed a fine concert career, with numerous tours in Europe, Japan, Canada and the Republic of South Africa.
Shebanova discography comprised over fifty LPs and CDs with music by Bach, Chopin, Brahms, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Tchaikovsky and Szymanowski on many labels such as RCA Victor, Melodya, CBS-Sony, EMI, Pony-Canyon and DUX.
Her repertoire included the complete works by Chopin and Debussy, J.S.Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, all the sonatas by Mozart, all the preludes by Rachmaninov and Mendelssohn–Bartholdy’s Lieder ohne Worte.
Tatiana Shebanova also pursued a teaching career. (mk)
