Poland’s largest review of films by American director Woody Allen kicks off in the southern Silesian city of Katowice today, with 37 films lined up for screening.

The films, which are being shown as part of the 14th Cult Film Festival, will be accompanied by additional lectures given by specialists in the field of psychology, psychiarty or sexuology.

Tomasz Szabelski, who is the organiser of the review, told Polish Radio Katowice that the decision to include lectures as part of the series comes as many of the topics are covered in the films of Woody Allen.

According to Szabelski, Woody Allen’s films “are genius,” but they have to be looked at closer to see the “real Allen.”

Screenings of the film start today at Katowice’s Rialto cinema, with the festival coming to a close at the end of March.

Woody Allen himself is expected to come to Katowice furing the festival, where he will play with his New Orleans Jazz Band on 23 March. (jb)
