Norwegian cinema and retrospectives of Andrzej Munk and Terry Gilliam are amongst the highlights of the forthcoming 11th Era New Horizons Film Festival in south west Poland.

Artistic Director Joanna Lapinska told Polish Radio that 430 films from over 50 countries will be screened at this year's festival, which is due to take place in Wroclaw from 21st-31st July.

Lapinska noted that one of the coups for the festival is a retrospective of films by veteran Norwegian director Anja Breien. Her films will be complemented by retrospectives of other outstanding Norwegian directors, including Vibeke Lokkeburg and Laili Mikkelsen.

A novelty for the festival is the introduction of a series of erotic films, in this instance the so-called 'pink cinema' of Japan from the sixties and seventies, a specific genre that differs somewhat from typical pornographic films of the West, owing to restrictions on what Japanese directors were allowed to show.

As always, a section of outstanding new Polish cinema will be included in the festival programme. (nh)
