• Poland celebrates International Theatre Day
  • 28.03.2011
A campaign called “Let’s go to the theatre” organized by the Theatre Institute in Warsaw kicked off celebrations this weekend of the 50 International Theatre Day in Poland.

The campaign’s aim is to encourage the young to go to the theatre, says Justyna Sobczyk, the curator of the project.

"We have been implementing this project for five years now. I have to admit that it is like an attempt to mount the Kilimanjaro. This time we thought that maybe the International Theatre Day will provoke, urge or inspire various theatres to act and to meet young people,” he told Polish Radio.

The event is directed mainly at high school and university students.

During the next three days they will be able to see plays, meet actors and playwrights, as well as participate in rehearsals, lectures and workshops.

Twenty four theatres in Warsaw participate in the campaign, including the National Theatre and the Jewish Theatre.

The event will last till Wednesday. (di)
