• Baby theatre opens in Warsaw
  • 31.03.2011

For the first time ever in Poland theaters have decided to cater for babies.

Three performances have been prepared by a theatre company from Poznan specially for the youngest audiences – between 0 and four years, and between  one and four years. They will be presented during the Warsaw Theatre Festival, which gets off the ground on Friday (1 April), Paulina Wroclawska told Polish Radio.

“This is a different theatre than for older audiences. The plays do not consist in a linear telling of a traditional story. They are based on interaction between the little ones and the actors. Children are free to do practically anything they want, they can get on stage, even destroy the setting, change the course of developments.”

The performances are fairly short, no too noisy and the lights are always on.

The Warsaw Theatre Festival will last two weeks and will see several dozen theatre companies from all over Poland perform. “The most interesting plays will be shown”, says Maciej Nowak, director of the Theatre Institute, which organized the festival.  (kk)
