• Tim Roth and Peter Weir to attend Krakow film fest
  • 01.04.2011
Actor Tim Roth and and film director Peter Weir are amongst the talents set to descend on Krakow as part of next week's Off Plus Camera Festival.

Roth is due to be honoured with the Against the Current award, which recognises figures who carve themselves an idiosyncratic niche in today's cinematic world. Last year's winner was The Piano director Jane Campion.

A household name thanks to his roles in such cult classics as Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, Roth went on to direct the critically acclaimed The War Zone.

Meanwhile, Australian director Peter Weir (Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show, Master and Commander) will be inaugurating the festival with the Polish premiere of his latest movie, The Long Walk (Niepokanani).

The film follows the plight of a young Polish man who leads an escape from a Soviet forced labour camp during World War II, crossing the Himalayas into India.

The festival's coveted prize remains the 'Making Way' Krakow Film Award, which presents 100,000 dollars to one of the twelve directors competing in the main competition. Head of the international jury this year, is Jerzy Skolimowski, whose current film Essential Killing is making waves across the globe.

Off Plus Camera is now in its fourth incarnation, and it will be including a new competition this year focusing on the best in recent Polish cinema. (nh)
