In our literary feature this week listen to Wartime Dairy by Zofia Nałkowska (10 November 1884, Warsaw, Poland - 17 December 1954, Warsaw, Poland).

Born into a family of intellectuals dedicated to the socialist cause, she studied in the Flying University and become one of Poland's most distinguished writers of prose, characterized by realism and psychological depth.

Her first success was Romans Teresy Hennert ("The love of Therese Hennert", 1923). She is best known for Granica ("The Frontier", 1935); Węzły życia ("Bonds of Life", 1948) and Medaliony ("Medallions", 1947).
