Presidential candidate Kornel Morawiecki advocates electoral change and a withdrawal from Afghanistan as part of his campaign.
In an interview with Polish Radio, Morawiecki stated that mandates to parliament should be held by one politician only. Currently a number of parliamentarians are elected from the same district with a Proportional Representation vote.
“The change would mean that the political scene would get some fresh air,” the presidential hopeful said, adding that as a result “parties would have politicians of a higher calibre.”
Kornel Morawiecki declared that if he became president, he would use his veto right with caution. As regards to relations with Russia and the Ukraine, he wants them to be based on “a foundation of truth.”
In military and defence, Morawiecki advocates withdrawing Polish troops from Afghanistan, saying that soldiers there are “like agressors.”
“They don’t want us there,” he says. “An example of this is President Karzai who is protected by US Marines. Why? He can’t find five or ten Afghans to protect him, whom he would trust. That’s the tragedy of our mission,” Morawiecki said, underlining that the mission in Afghanistan goes against the Polsh tradition of fighting for independence: “for your freedom and ours.”
