The parliamentary club of Poland Comes First has come forward with a proposal for the Polish Parliament to declare solidarity with the people of Japan in the wake of the tragic earthquake and tsunami which ravaged the country last week.

The party tabled a draft declaration, writing that Poles have many times experienced support from other countries, also from Japan, and so understand the need for solidarity and help in moral as well as material dimensions.

They also write of the great respect aroused by the stance of the Japanese people in the face of the great calamity which has struck their country, and the courage and self-possession they are displaying in the rescue effort.

Poland Comes First, which is formed of former members of the major opposition Law and Justice party, announced that it hopes the declaration will be adopted at the session of Parliament which begins on Wednesday.

“It seems natural that Poles should be expressing solidarity with the Japanese people in these difficult times” MP Zbyslaw Owczarski told PAP news agency. (ek/jb)
