• Law and Justice in poll bounce despite Silesian jibe
  • 08.04.2011

A new survey undertaken by Homo Homini pollsters reveals that if elections were to be held on 6 April, five parties would gain seats in the Sejm lower parliamentary house.

Despite earlier jibes by Law and Justice leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who said that Silesians pretend to Germanophilia last week, his party received 28.7 percent of the ballot, close behind the ruling Civic Platform with 32.1 percent of the vote.

“It doesn’t look as if the Silesian nationality question has harmed Law and Justice in any way,” Marcin Duma, the head of Homo Homini has commented, as “the people who felt insulted by [Kaczynski’s] comments are not part of his electorate.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic Left Alliance gained 17 percent in the poll, while junior coalition partners the Polish Peasants Party gained 7.1 percent of the ballot.

Poland Comes First, a splinter group which was formed by politicians from the Law and Justice party, gained 5.1 percent, just above the 5 percent threshold to win seats in parliament. (jb)
