We look back at the political conflict which has been ongoing since the Smolensk tragedy one year ago, centring around how to commemorate the deaths of President Kaczynski and 95 others on 10 April last year and what caused the crash in western Russia.

“Most people have a rather sceptical view of the way that this disaster has been played out in political life and the investigation has been politicised. For some it has become an instrument to get back into government,” says Jacek Kucharczyk of the Institute of Public Affairs.

“Each party is using this to achieve their goals,” says Marcin Sobczyk, chief of the Dow Jones bureau in Warsaw. “Both sides have rushed to conclusions about the tragedy," he tells our reporter, Michal Kubicki. (pg)
