The Plac Wilsona subway station in the Warsaw district of Zoliborz was selected the most beautiful in the world.
Such a verdict was reached by architects participating in the MetroRail 2008 conference in the Danish capital of Copenhagen. One of The Metro's award categories is called "Best Metro Europe" and is awarded to metro operators in Europe. According to the website of the organisers, the award is a recognition of the urban rail industry’s achievements and contributions to the forward development of the industry.
According to Warsaw mayor, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, the station was awarded for its modern design and architectural solutions. Its main competitors were Madrid, Vancouver and Copenhagen. Warsaw’s only subway line consists of 17 stations and covers 19 kilometers. Plac Wilsona station opened in 2005.
