Z lokalnego życia wzięte

Ta książka przywędrowała do naszej redakcji z Gdańska, jej autor – Tomasz Słomczyński – jest lokalnym dziennikarzem, publikuje swoje teksty w „Dzienniku Bałtyckim”. Tytuł – „Zapytaj jeża i inne historie. 13 reportaży”.

Nie jest to chyba, niestety, książka dla osób, które źle znoszą historie smutne i trudne, jakie często przynosi nam życie. Jest to książka, można tak ją nazwać – kryminalna, choć nie mająca wiele wspólnego z powieściami Marka Krajewskiego czy Agaty Christie (może tu kolejność powinna być odwrotna, choćby z racji parytetu i dobrego wychowania). To są opowieści zaczerpnięte z prawdziwych, istniejących policyjnych i sądowych kronik, z więziennych ksiąg.
To, o czym pisze Słomczyński, zdarzyło się naprawdę. I to, co oczywiste, nie są historie z happy endem, niestety. Zbierane przez lata, nagradzane, dość powiedzieć, że autor, za jeden z zawartych w książce tekstów, „Na Baluba mówią: Żydzi”, otrzymał dwa lata temu Grand Prix w konkursie im. Macieja Szumowskiego.

Całość zaczyna się od opowieści o Kamilu Miszewskim. Tytułowy tekst, „Zapytaj jeża”, to historia wypadku i konsekwencji tego zdarzenia. Młody, student socjologii, wsiada, namówiony przez kolegów – po imprezie – za kierownicę. Ma dwa promile we krwi. Dochodzi do tragedii. Giną dwie osoby, w tym jego przyjaciel, Gucio, który interesuje się subkulturą więzienną. Pisze o tym Słomczyński tak: „Kiedy rozmawiają, Kamil słucha przyjaciela i jeszcze nie wie, że Guciowi zostało kilka godzin życia, a on sam za kilkanaście miesięcy będzie musiał podjąć decyzję: czy przystępuje do grypsujących czy nie”. Kamil, którego wina jest oczywista, trafia do więzienia i tam… postanawia skończyć studia. Pomaga mu w tym jeden z profesorów, radzi, w jaki sposób zachowywać się w celi, by w miarę spokojnie przetrwać ten czas. Czyni obserwacje, wszystko notuje, pisze pracę magisterską o środowisku więźniów. A gdy już wychodzi na wolność, zaczyna pisać doktorat… Przestępca – jak wielu go nazywa i co on sam rozumie – zostaje pracownikiem naukowym.
Jest też w książce „Zapytaj jeża” tekst, napisany wspólnie przez Słomczyńskiego i bohatera jego reportażu. To opowieść o więziennych praktykach, przed laty i dziś, o tym, do czego są w stanie posunąć się osoby siedzące za kratkami, jak umiejętnie i w sposób kontrolowany sobie zaszkodzić, by na chwilę wydostać się z celi. Nie jest to lektura przyjemna, ale naprawdę robi wrażenie.

Inne opowieści? Pisze Tomasz Słomczyński o kobietach, które odwiedzają swoich mężczyzn w więzieniach. Ich strój, wygląd, zachowanie zależy od stopnia pokrewieństwa. Pisze o matkach, które odwiedzają synów, są „raczej zaniedbane i bardziej zgnębione”. Ale są też żony, narzeczone czy – by trzymać się tu języka używanego przez funkcjonariuszy – konkubiny. One – jak pisze Słomczyński – są „odstawione, włosy głównie blond i balejaż, po solarium lub wysmarowane kremami samoopalającymi”. Wiele wyjaśnia już sam tytuł reportażu – „Na widzenie robię makijaż”. Wyznaje to Beata, która przez lata żyła z człowiekiem poszukiwanym przez policję. Ona o niczym nie wiedziała… Kocha, pisze listy, trwa. To ciekawy tekst o tym, jak można reagować na dość nietypową rozłąkę z ukochaną osobą.

Żeby jednak nie było tak całkowicie smutno i monotematycznie. W zbiorze „Zapytaj jeża” są także teksty o: mrówkach, czyli osobach, które zajmują się przemytem – z terenu Obwodu Kaliningradzkiego do Polski (to często jedyny sposób, by zarobiły pieniądze zapewniające utrzymanie), jest reportaż o pewnym gdańskim profesorze, który – tu użyję kolokwialnego określenia z tekstu – oblewa studentów, z czego uczelnia czerpie całkiem niezłe zyski. Jest wreszcie tekst, o którym niegdyś już opowiadaliśmy na antenie – „Tylko łosoś nie bierze”. Świetny, całości nie zdradzę – zacytuję jedynie początek:
„Jak Pan myśli, gdzie znajdzie się przedsiębiorca, który wykrył, że prawie cała jego załoga okrada go od kilku lat?” „Nie wiem, pójdzie do prokuratora?” – odpowiada Tomasz Słomczyński. „Owszem, pójdzie, ale zaraz potem zasiądzie na ławie oskarżonych”

Jak pokazuje książka Tomasza Słomczyńskiego, czasem warto sprawdzić, co dzieje się w poszczególnych częściach kraju, bo można się przy okazji przekonać, że także tam zdolnych i wciąż młodych (autor ma dopiero 35 lat ) reporterów nie brakuje. Naprawdę dobrze napisane, czyta się „Zapytaj jeża” szybko, tematy – choć nie do końca przyjemne – wciągają.
