An 18-year-old female snowboarder from Poland died in Trento, northern Italy on Wednesday, the Italian Ansa news agency has announced.

The fatal accident took place on the Doss del Sabbion ski slopes in Rendena Valley. The Polish tourist hit a tree while descending to the Malga Cioca refuge and suffered serious injuries. The woman was provided with first aid on the slope before the rescue team arrived in a helicopter. However, all attempts to save her life failed.

This is a second fatality among the numerous Polish tourists in the Italian Alps this year. Already, at the end of January, a 12-year-old girl died in the Aosta region. (jm)
