• Protesters block MP’s offices

Yesterday protesters from the left wing “Sierpien 80’” trade union blocked constituency offices of the ruling Civic Platform (PO) in several cities around Poland. 

 

Trade unionists organized sit-in protests in Rzeszow, Poznan, Lodz, Wroclaw, Lublin, Gliwice and Bydgoszcz. They wanted the government to meet their “21 demands” which include: to enter into a dialog the protestors, raise salaries for teachers and nurses, rescue the Polish fishing shipping, mining and arms industries.

 

The protesters were later dispersed by police.  

 

Twenty three protesters blocked the constituency office of prominent member of parliament, Janusz Palikot in Lublin. They wanted the MP to organize a meeting for them with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.Palikot announced he would meet protesters on Monday.

 

In Wroclaw, trade unionists spent several hours occupying the office of deputy PM Grzegorz Schetyna but left without fight.

 

Meanwhile in Poznan, nine trade unionists, screaming: “Today they beat us, tomorrow they will beat you”, were removed from the office by police.  

 

The trade unionists from “Sierpien 80’”announced that they would continue their protest by blocking constituency offices of MPs from all political parties.

 

Yesterday’s protests were preceded by similar protest actions in Szczecin, Katowice and Lodz on Monday. (mg/pg)
