A jury verdict is expected Saturday at the 59th International Film Festival in Berlin.
Last night’s screening of Andrzej Wajda’s Sweet Rush (Polish title: Tatarak) met with a very good response from the audience. It is one of eighteen entries competing for the Golden Bear.
In an interview with the daily Polska, Poland’s veteran film director said: ‘I already have a Silver Bear (for Holy Week in 1995) to my account. I would be really happy if Krystyna Janda was among the prize winners. She is an outstanding actress.’
In Sweet Rush, Krystyna Janda plays Marta, a middle-aged woman, the wife of an ageing doctor whose life is turned upside down when she meets a young man, Bogus. The script, by Wajda and the writer Olga Tokarczuk, is based on a short story by the famous Polish writer Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz (1894-1980), with some elements from a short story by the Hungarian writer Sándor Mároi. The film’s producer is Michał Kwieciński, whose past projects include Wajda’s Oscar-nominated Katyn.
Talking about his plans in the interview for Polska, Wajda said they are likely to include a film about Solidarity leader, based on a script by Agnieszka Holland. (mk/pg)
