Adam Arasimowicz, an international fugitive fleeing a 2001 drug conviction, was arrested yesterday afternoon in Mahopac, New York on an international extradition warrant.

The thirty-nine-year-old Pole was convicted for trafficking cocaine into Poland in March 2001 and was arrested as a result of cooperative efforts between US Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), INTERPOL, and officials from the Southern District of New York.

The investigation was carried out by ICE and the US Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force in cooperation with the Polish government, who provided the necessary identification information to the US State Department.

Arasimowicz was convicted in Poland in 2001 and sentenced to six years in prison for attempting to import over one kilogram of cocaine into the country. Following sentencing, the convict fled the country. (mmj)
