Tomasz Adamek, originally from Gliwice, southern Poland now residing in New Jersey, defended his International Boxing Federation’s cruiserweight title Friday night.
Adamek stopped American Jonathan Banks one minute thirty seconds into the eight-round.
“The body punches were crucial because no matter who you are, after a while you start fighting slower,” Adamek said. “We knew as the fight wore on he would wear down.”
This was win number 37 in the Pole’s career, and the 25th won by a knockout punch.
Adamek, already confident in himself before the fight, stated, “I am already a champion and nothing will change after this fight.”
Adamek took the IBF title back in December when he defeated Steve Cunningham on a close points decision. (mmjpg)
