• Unemployment rising, available jobs decreasing

The Labour Ministry has released figures showing that unemployment is rising and the amount of jobs being advertised is decreasing. 

 

Unemployment figures at the end of February were at 10.9 percent, up 0.4 percentage points from January. An increase in the number of unemployed has been noted in each region of Poland. 

 

The largest number of unemployed are in Warminski-Mazurski region, northeastern Poland, where 18.9 percent of residents are registered as unemployed, up 0.8 percent from January. 

 

At the end of February, 1,719,100 people in all of Poland found themselves without a job. 

 

As well, the number of jobs being advertised by companies through labour offices is down by one-third. Last year in February there were 102,1000 jobs available, in 2009 that number shrank to 64,400. (mmj)
