• Creating jobs should be priority, says Kaczynski

Former prime minister Jarosław Kaczyński has called for the government to counteract growing unemployment in Poland and make creating jobs a priority.

 

At a press conference, Wednesday, the chairman of the Law and Justice party claimed that when he was in power his government created over 1,3 million new workplaces. "Our achievements may go to waste now," warned Jarosław Kaczyński.

 

"We should reject the principle that in the campaign against the economic crisis there is nothing more we can do than speaking empty words and make euro currency introduction forecasts," he added, referring to the government’s efforts to get Poland into the European single currency as soon as possible.

 

"Everyone who governs in that way is heading for a time when Poland will struggle once again with mass unemployment," he claimed.

 

He believes that there is only one solution - to activate the Polish economy and encourage business creation.

 

Kaczynski added that the government should hold back "the executions" of companies who suffer crucial losses do to the weakness of the zloty and step in to protect failing companies.

 

The Law and Justice party point to 250.000 people have lost their jobs during the first two months this year. On Monday the party displayed a "dismissal map" outlining unemployment forecasts in different cities around Poland. One member of the party said: "The Prime Minister should hang such a map in his cabinet."
