Marian Krzaklewski, former leader of the Solidarity trade union, has confirmed that he will have talks with the ruling Civic Platform about possibly standing as the party’s candidate in the elections to the European Parliament this June.

“Currently we are discussing a possible meeting, which could occur next week,” said Krzaklewski. He added that he will make the decision whether to run for the European Parliament or not after the meeting.

Media speculates that Krzaklewski is likely to be offered the top place on Civic Platform’s electoral list in the Subcarpathian region.

The politician said also that earlier on he also received a proposition from local activists of the opposition Law and Justice party, but refused to reveal any details.

Marian Krzaklewski was the leader of the Solidarity trade union since 1991. He was also a creator and head of Solidarity Electoral Action (AWS) which governed Poland between 1997 and 2001. In 2000 Krzaklewski unsuccessfully ran in the presidential. (jm/pg)
