Poland’s Nordic cross country skier, Justyna Kowalczyk has taken the top classification after the final World Cup event in Falun, Sweden, winning the Cristal Globe
In the 10 km pursuit freestyle on Sunday, Kowalczyk started the run with a comfortable lead of 48.6 seconds over Sweden’s Anna Olsson and managed to keep the lead throughout the whole race.
Kowalczyk wins World Cup title even though she led the overall standings only once all season.
The 26-year-old has been competing in cross county skiing since 2000 and won the bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy in the 30 km freestyle, becoming the first Pole to medal in the sport at an Olympic event. (jm)
