Poland’s government has added an amendment bill to legislation on compulsory military service, in order to transform the army into a fully professional and voluntary force.
As of January 1, 2010, conscription to Poland’s armed forces will end.
The amendment bill also creates a National Reserve Force, which could be used in crisis situations.
The last soldiers conscripted to the army on a compulsory basis started their service in December last year and are to leave barracks in September and will be replaced with entry via a qualification procedures, to be launched today. (jm)
