Andrzej Stelmachowski, academic and politician, died Monday night at the age of 84.
Stelmachowski was born on 28 January, 1935 in Poznan, western Poland and studied and fought with the Home Army during WW II.
He was a professor at Wroclaw and later Warsaw University and was an advisor to the Solidarity movement throughout the 1980 and took part in the Round Table talks in 1989. Later he was a Speaker in the Senate and was a minister of education.
His funeral will take place on 15 April at the Cathedral of St John’s, Warsaw, and will be buried in the historic Powazki cemetery. (pg)
