Ewa Tusk, the mother of Prime Minister Donald Tusk died in Gdansk at the age of 75.  

President Lech Kaczynski offered his condolences to Donald Tusk and commemorated the life of his mother with a minute’s silence during the ceremony of awarding medals to members of the Institute of National Remembrance at the Presidential Palace this morning.  

Today PM Donald Tusk will not preside over a Cabinet session. He will be replaced by his deputy Grzegorz Schetyna. 

Ewa Tusk was seriously ill for some time. Last year she underwent hip surgery and had an aneurism removed from her stomach. 

She was a very modest person, “living a simple life of a pensioner”, as she described it in an interview. Ewa Tusk was proud of her son Donald but kept herself at a distance from politics. (wg/pg)
