Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that the Polish government has allocated 1 million zloty (about 250,000 euro) to aid the victims and families of those affected by the Kamien Pomorski fire.
The money, to come from the Social Solidarity Reserve Fund, created last year as part of the government’s anti-crisis plan. The fund is made up of money collected by the increase in taxes on alcohol and personal vehicles with engines larger than two litres.
Tusk added that the national government will work with local and regional governments to finance a new building to house those made homeless by the fire.
The quick blaze occurred early Monday morning. Twenty-two people were killed and 21 gravely injured.
President Lech Kaczynski has declared a three-day state of national mourning for the victims. (mmj)
