• Murderer’s brother was to become a deputy minister
  • 15.04.2009

Stanislaw Kosciuk, the brother of a man accused of killing Krzysztof Olewnik, was a candidate for the governmental post during the Law and Justice (PiS)-League of Polish Families (LPR)-Self Defence (Samoobrona) coalition in 2006, writes the weekly Polityka.

A special commission formed to investigate the circumstances of the death of Krzysztof Olewnik, a wealthy businessman's son, will also examine political threads of the case.

Stanislaw Kosciuk was put up for the post of Minister of Sport by the coalition Self Defence party. His candidature was approved by the ruling Law and Justice party but he was not appointed to the post. Kosciuk, who was a secretary general of the Polish Association of the Deaf was suspected of money fraud.

While running for the post of deputy minister, Stanislaw Kosciuk was aware that his brother was the main suspect in Olewnik murder case. Yet the politician claims he was not in touch with his brother Slawomir since he was arrested. (mg)
