Report on Kamien Pomorski fire to be released

A preliminary report of a commission investigating the cause of the tragic fire in a hostel in Kamien Pomorski, north-western Poland as well as the rescue operation is to be presented today.

The commission composed of criminologists and led by general Janusz Skulich has been working on the spot since Tuesday. So far the local fire services has not confirmed the information that the fire could have started as a result of a sparkle.

Today marks the third day of the national mourning declared by president Lech Kaczyński following the blaze. Flags at official buildings have been put at half mast and many concerts, sports and mass events have been cancelled.

A total of 21 people died while 20 others were injured in the blaze which ravaged in a social services hostel early Monday.
