Warsaw police have new tools to fight car thieves known as ‘bait cars’ which are stuffed with cameras and sensors.
Police place them on Warsaw streets most exposed to car burglary in an attempt to lure the unsuspecting thief into committing a crime.
The first car thief swallowed the bait on Monday. Thirty six years-old Waldemar K., already with a criminal record, attempted to steal a car placed by the police on Baczynskiego Street. When he realized that there were no witnesses, he broke the side window and grabbed the satellite navigation system. He was caught red-handed.
The incident was recorded on CCTV cameras and micro cameras installed inside the car. Warsaw police have six ‘bait cars’ but soon they will have more. (mg/pg)
