President of India, Pratibha Patil will arrive in Poland for a four day visit today.

 

She will arrive at 14.00 CET at Warsaw’s Okecie airport. The first day of the trip will be taken up with meetings with the Indian community in Poland, with a special dinner arranged at the Sheraton Hotel.

 

On Friday, President Patil will be formally welcomed to Poland by President Lech Kaczynski at the Presidential Palace. Bi-lateral talks will follow and agreements will be signed on tourism and health. Later the President of India will have talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Speaker of of the Lower House of Parliament, Bronislaw Komorowski and she will visit and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

 

On Saturday, President Patil will travel to the historic city of Krakow for meetings at the Jagiellonian University. On Sunday, she will visit Auschwitz Nazi death camp, followed by a tour of the ancient Wieliczka salt mine.  

 

This is the fourth visit by an Indian head of state to Poland. Earlier this week she visited Spain where President Patil signed cooperation agreements on renewable energy, tourism and agriculture.

 

Her visit coincides with the second phase of the Indian general election, where 700 million people are eligible to vote. (pg)
